I took the garage up on the details concerning the checking of tyre-wear and the staff were 'funny' about it. After the service, the car was running badly before settling after a couple of weeks and was then driving very smoothly except for the fact that the clutch since collecting the car from the garage would not go into first-gear sometimes and of course this problem has gotten progressively worse; in addition, a thorn was mysteriously found in our tyre which caused the requirement of a new one, even though there are no thorn bushes in the area in which I live. They wrecked the car.
